Into the Fire....

1 Sep 2000, Wednesday night

Alex and Jayde talk to the Stegosaurus demon and he tells them about Orme, how "he arrived a few years ago and, dispite his power and strength, he didn't take over the local vampire group. He was quiet and obsessive, prefering quiet contemplation to fighting for control of the local vampire possie. About a couple of years ago he became active and took control of the vampire group, killing the previous leader. He started to forge the group into a strong unit who were fanatical, but their purpose was unknown. About a year ago Orme had some 'special' fire brought from Iran or something. Since then he became obsessive about that fire. It 'talks' to him and it he has his vampires keep it and feed it."

"So?"

"He's a powerful, fanatical vampire who has followers who obey his every word. When he starts listening to his fire, its time to leave."

"What about the wall?"

"What wall? Oh at the uni? We arnt effected by that. The vampires have always avoided that place as mysterious and dangerous. Even before I arrived."

"So why the thing last night?"

"Because if Orme knew we were able to enter he would enslave us all. We're out of here."

"Good plan. So, where is he?"

"You dont want to find him slayer. He is strong, maybe even stronger than you and he rules the others like a god. Stay away from him if you want to live. He's under ground, try the sewers."

Jayde lets the demon go and continues patroling. Alex seems to remember something about the fire and running into Conrad (who seems to be pulling an all nighter at the uni :) he mentions Zoroastrians and fire. Alex wants to go all librarian on yo arse and look it all up but resists and keeps on the patrol.

Jayde finds some graves dug up and more foot prints leaving than arriving. Oh dear.

Meanwhile, at Alex's place, the rest of the gang party on watching video's and trying not to think about not being safe at home and having to hide out for the evening. Casey asks what exactly the problem is and Mary explains that its a little to do with Faith's past and probably best to not mention it and hope that she doesn't kill everyone.

Alex comes home and talks to Mary about the goings on in the patrol. Mary offers to get up early and help Alex research.

1 Sep 2000, Thursday

Mary and Alex get up early and go into uni and start researching. They find some stuff on Orme:

• Orme was a crusader and as such a mindless butcher, err, less than humane individual.
• Orme served as a second in command to a few master vampires, usually ones with fervant belief in their cause. There is not a continours record of his presence, so he hasnt been constantly trying to make a name for himself, but rather selecting his battles.
• His predeath religious belief seems to have morphed somewhat into a very unChristian belief.
• Training and skills in hacking people to pieces.

Research about The Fire and Zoroastrians (with a little help from Conrad) reveals:

• Alexander the Great was fighting with King Darius of Persia. When he conquered the city with his palace in, he talked with his generals about it. Some said to destroy the city, others said that now they owned it, destroying it served no purpose.
• Arriving, Alexander ordered the city destroyed but the palace saved. His troops did just attack the city and burnt everything to the ground, including the people. The destruction lasted a number of days and many of the people killed themselves or burnt in their houses rather than being killed by Alexanders army.
• Later, at the palace, during a great party, when Alexander and his army were slightly drunk, a courtesan named Thias of Athena (a beautiful and brilliant woman, according to Conrad who almost smiles), complained that the Persians had burnt Athens and that it was unfair that their palace was spared and she urged Alexander to start burning the palace, which he did.
• Zoroastians were started in 550BC with the belief in an invisible supreme being. They also believed in the purity of the elements, fire being one. They had a fire in their temple and they fed it constantly.
• Conrad expresses the view that maybe the purity of the flame, was corrupted with the burning of the people and their temple.

Mary suggests that maybe the fire can be used to corrupt or maybe it can burn the goodness out of someone. That raises the possibilty of burning the soul out of the humans to give.. err... who knows.

Thursday night

Patrol, patrol, patrol for Jayde, then nightclub.
