Weirdness

30 Aug 2000, Continuing the kitchen debate... (Wednesday)

The twins dad looks confused for a second. "Er, yes. Yes, I guess it is. Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I had no right to deprive you of part of your mothers history."

He sighs before starting on a long to type in monolog.. "Look, your mother was really great person. I sort of grew up in this well off lawer family and it was sort of expected that I'd go to uni and pick some profession. When I met your mother I was just blown away, I mean here was a lady who had ditched school to backpack around the 'States. She'd been more places than I had and had experienced more and was much more, well, experienced. She was the sort to dive into life and experiance it and that was really refreshing and eye opening."

"I didn't really think that I had any chance with her, you know, cos of the bookshop and all, but we got on great and suddenly before I really knew what was happening, we were like serious."

He goes serious. "And I don't want you thinking that I dragged her away to LA with me. I was so smitten that I was seriously thinking of ditching law and moving to Frisco to be with her, job be damned. But when I told her that she got like all 'No! You shouldnt give that up. You're good at it and you can do good!'. I argued, but I couldnt talk her round. Something had to happen. I was working in LA and then commuting to Frisco whenever I could and it just was hell."

After a pause he continues. "Well she split from the book shop. I want quite clear on the details. I mean she really ran the place. Tony, Brad and Harva were really just the money behind it, but it was Leda's idea and her baby. I'm not sure how that split up went. I mean I was busy in LA and it was really her business to take care of and I didn't like to interfere. It wasn't that I was unpopular there, but well it was never really comfortable and I don't think that Leda settled that up and got closure there. But I'm not fully sure of the story, like I said."

"Anyway we moved to LA and the practice took off and..." he looks up and looks uncomforable for a bit. "Look, this is really beside the point I guess. I figured that the book shop uses its money for the community and its not like you need it. Plus my discussions with them by mail have been, well just cordial and formal really. I guess that's my problem not yours, but I was just figuring that it would be easier for everyone to just call it quits. Still if they want to pursue that then I guess thats fine with me. I'll answer any questions that I can and help however I can."

"Well I think it could be kinda cool. Mangement and purchasing stock." Jayde pipes up.

"Yeah, odd books and talking to customers" says Gemma.

"Errr, and I didn't think you'd be interested. Still if you are, it could be a good introduction to... err.. life. Not that I ever expected the two of you to work in retail or anything. But it would be a good lesson. Responsibility and all that."

"Retail! Eeeew! I meant management!" snorts Jayde.

The discussion continues a bit before David calls it a night and Jayde goes out patrolling.

After they have both gone, Leda appears in the kitchen and she is talking on the phone, oblivious to Gemma who is trying to talk to her. "Yes. Yes. I realise I'll have to leave the bookshop and move to LA. Yeah. Uhuh. Yeah. Its so not like I'm married. Yeah. I don't care. No, that's important. Yep. Yeah, look I have to get to work and arrange it. Yeah, sure. Fursure." Gemma notices just how faded Leda is looking but also how much younger. Leda hangs the phone up against the wall, looks at her wrist, puts down her cup and walks out of the room. Both the phone and the cup disappear as soon as she loses contact with them. Gemma shrugs and goes to bed.

Jayde is on patrol and catches sight of some vampires (4) and some Stegasaurus demons (leathery skin with ridges of horns). The leader of the vamp pack is the same woman who was in charge of the vampire pack that Jayde destroyed in the car escape with the fire engineer. Jayde follows from a distance and notices the vampires seem to be searching on a map for something. One of the vamps gets bored. "Dude, why can't we just like walk through the center and find it. I mean whats all this searching crap?"

The leader replies. "Great idea! You wanna do that and then explain it to Orme?"

"Err. Yeah. Right. Next square's this way." The leader vamp shakes her head.

Suddenly they walk into an invisible wall. They turn expectantly and look at the demons. The demons walk carefully forward and do the mime and invisible wall thing. Jayde bites back the urge to kill them all and just watches. "Some sort of barrier." the demons offer helpfully.

"Yeah, brilliant dude. So what about the little runt then. So you can't get through? He was just full of crap then? Better bring him here and prove he can get through if you still wanna stick with his story."

"Err. Yes. Yes. We will have to go and discuss this with the tribe."

Jayde's slayer hearing picks up. "Morons." from one of the vampires. Jayde carefully marks where the wall is so she can come back tomorrow. She follows the pack of demons off and gets their number plates as they drive off.

Jonathan is at home again with nothing to do. Shesh that boy needs a life.

Neo rings and says he is coming back tomorrow after he has dinner at his mums and gets his washing done. Mary warns him that there is a new housemate and she's had a freind staying in Neo's room, carefully omitting details such as exactly who these people are. Mary explains to Angel and Faith exactly why Neo is likely to be freaked. Angel wants to talk to him because he broke into Wolfrum and Hart. Glitch is still to paranoid to actually come back. W&H still freak him out. Faith has the shadow of a black eye. She and Angel go out. Casey pokes his head out and asks Mary where Faith and Angel are off to.

"Patrolling"

"But isn't he a... nevermind. We covered that. I'm going back to the maths homework."

31 Aug 2000, Thursday

Jayde goes to see alex and spills about her discoveries. Alex seems excited. The vamp leader is Orme? Alex says its norse for worm or dragon. Jayde hands over the number plates and Alex says she will check on them. Jayde then discribes the demons and waits while Alex goes off to look through some books.

Toulak demons she finds after just a little research. Said to be immortal and eternal through reincarnation into the same body (Toulak souls share one continuing body). They form into tribes or familiesand ther aren't very many of them. They have been around for a very long time and are said to be natural as opposed to being an demonic entity that possesses a dead human as in vampires. Cool! Old Evil!

They walk over to explore the 'wall'. Jayde finds the spot, and Alex confirms that both she and Jayde can walk though it. "Maybe there is some barrier that the vamps couldnt cross, but they thought the Stegosaurus demons could."

"Yeah, that could work. I'll call Conrad and see what he can make of it." offers Alex.

"Cool. I'll be shopping. Catch ya later."

Meanwhile, Mary races home after the first period to try and catch Neo. She does and explains to Neo that "Yes, vampires are real and evil. Oh except for Angel who isn't. Oh and Faith, who is the psychotic killer that you read about is all better now and your new room mate."

Neo stares blankly, obviously failing to process this, especially after she adds that Jayde is now nice(er) and Jonathan had a date. Still blinking, Mary leads him to class.

Lunchtime scooby meeting

Gemma and Jayde break the news. "We own a porn book shop!!"

"Cool!"

Jayde adds "Oh and I found the name of the vampire leader!! And an invisible wall on campus!!"

"REALLY!!!! A porn book shop!" Mary restates.

"Err yeah."

Alex reports that Conrad, while uneffected by the wall, can detect it magically. He theorises that his host is alive still and human, so maybe that helps him get through the wall.

"What sort of books?" Mary asks, obviously keeping up with the conversation.

"The glasses are ready. We can start patrolling with them now." offers Jonathan.

"Great! Maybe Jayde can take them on patrol. Oh wait. Maybe thats bad. She does all that jumping round and killing things. Maybe someone should go with her. Yep. Thats what we will do. Ill go patrolling with her!" concludes Alex.

"Like rude books and all?" offers Mary.

"YES!" everyone shouts.

Just then there is a knock on the door and Jayde answers it. There is a weedy looking guy with glasses at the door. "Psych department." Jayde offers, summing him up as a tragedy in the fashon stakes "Yeah?"

"Wesley Windam Price. I'm here to talk to Angel."

"Come in then"

After a short discussion, Mary offers to take Wes to see Angel now (during the day).

Geek house

Rolling up at the house, Mary takes Wes to see Angel. "Angel. Things are busy in LA. You are needed back there."

"Come in. Lets talk about it." Angel offers.

Mary skulks off to try and find Faith. She sneaks up to the room and puts her ear to the door. Its absoulutly quiet. She is straining her hearing when suddenly she feels a hand on her shoulder and jumps a little. "Faith!!! Err I was... just looking for you."

"So I can see. Wassup?"

"Wesley is here to see Angel."

Faith goes pale. "Wes is here?!? Ah, crap." Faith turns and heads for the kitchen. Mary follows. Faith heads out the back door and towards the back fence.

"Faith!!!"

"What the #&$#@ are you doing! Go away!"

"You can't run away!"

"Watch me." She leaps up onto the fence.
