Gelert was a huge beast of a dog who would lead all John's hunts. John gave Gelert to Llewelyn, Prince of Wales, upon his marrage to Joan. On his first hunt with Llewelyn, Gelert ran a huge stag to exaustion, where it died is called Beth Gelert. Gelert soon became Llewelyn's favorite hunting dog. One day, years later, Llewelyn called a hunt to find a werewolf that was attacking the townsfolk, but Gelert did not come at the call of the horn. Irritated, Llewelyn left on the hunt but without his mighty dog to lead the hunt, it amounted to little. When he rode back through the gate, he was greeted by Gelert, covered in blood. "Has gone mad and killed somebody?", wondered Llewelyn. His mind suddenly fearful, he raced upstairs, behind him Gelert followed up the stairs. Following the trail of blood up the stairs, Llewelyn started to smell smoke as he approached. Panic filled his mind as he reached the the bedroom where his one year old son usually lay, sleeping. Bursting into the bedroom, Llewelyn found and the room a shambles, the bed torn up and his son's cradle empty. Blood lay over the floor of the and soaked all the sheets. "Monster! You have devoured my son!" shouted Lleweyn, blind with rage, as he spun round and drew his sword. With a wild yell, Lleweyn ran Gelert through. His eyes fixed on his master's face, the dog collapsed to the floor, blood flowing from the gaping wound in his side. As the dog fell to the floor, the strewen sheets started to move. Llewelyn spun round to face the rising shape. The sheets pulled back and revealed the body of Lady Gilforth who had been visiting with her husband. Her flesh was blackened and peeling and her clothes were burnt and covered with blood. She looked dazed and stunned, but as she looked up from the shadows and squinted at the light, Llewelyn saw her fangs. He swung his sword, but with inhuman speed, she kicked it from his hands and smashed him down against the far wall. By the time he recovered, the Vampire stood over him and dropped his crying son into Llewelyn's arms. "The dog's fighting woke me." she pushed the bed to one side and revealed the gutted corpse of a huge wolf. "Here is your werewolf, Prince!" the vampire spat at Llewelyn. Atlast the prince understood why Gelert had not answered his hunt call. The vampire walked over to the dog and lifted it in her burnt arms. The prince got to his feet, cradling his son in his hands, he removed his signet ring, "Vampire, it seems I owe you my son's life, take this ring. You will never be hunted in my lands." The Prince knelt by his motonless dog, his heart broken. "Although I cannot bring you to life, Gelert, I can keep alive the memory of your noble deed." Llewelyn buried Gelert by the rock where the stag had died. At midnight, Lady Gilforth, walked to the grave and removed the stones. Cutting her wrist open, she dropped blood onto the motionless animals mouth. Slowly, Gelerts tounge lapped up the blood. And soon, the pair were running through the forest hunting wolfs and night creatures. The town was free of werewolfs as long as the prince lived. Many people reported seeing the dog and the woman from then on, and although the prince went searching for them, he found only remains of kills, ripped open and drained of blood and other evidence of their passing. For hundreds of years after that, people passing by the grave site threw a stone on it, in honor of the great animal and to give thanks for their protection from the werewolfs. The cairn they made is still called Beth Gelert, or the Grave of Gelert. As to what happened to the prince, the records tell us that he went on to live to a ripe old age. On his death bed, it is said he called the name of his dog and that on that night, a loud howl echoed the land. Some say that the princes ghost wandered the land after he died, searching for his dog's ghost. Most say that he never found him, others say that he found them and lives with his dog, to this day. But nowdays, of course, noone belives in ghosts, werewolfs and vampires. \subsubsection{Gelert} Gelert, as you will have guessed, is an embraced dog, and a real big bastard at that. Gelert is no modern civilised dog, he is almost a wolf himself (infact, he prefers the term wolfhound :-). Gelert guards Ingrid, Toby and Rene's haven, protecting the contents and coming to his owners aid, if required. \subsubsection{Motivation} Gelert is the pack leader of Ingrid and Rene's guard dogs. He is blood bonded to Ingrid and, is very loyal to her (as you would expect from a pack animal). He will fight to protect Ingrid unquestioningly, and will obey her commands with little prompting. He understands some human speech, Norse, English and a smattering of more common Mongrel. Gelert is trained to guard Ingrids haven and step through the circle of XXXX--jump to friend-- if called. Where upon he will dive out of the shadows and make his presence felt. \subsubsection{Advantages} He has auspex, sufficent to sense vampires (who are threats) and sense emotions, which he acts upon. If he detects someones fear, he will play on it. Gelert is suprisingly cunning at reading peoples intent from their smell combined with their emotions through auspex. He is a brutal and vicious attack dog who goes for the throat of hamstring in combat. He has had hundreds of years of experiance and he is smart enough to avoid weapons and many traps. He also knows when he is bested and will retreat. He has almost automatic control over dogs. Cats don't like him. \subsubsection{Disadvantages} His animalism works only on dogs, which he commands, seemingly as though he could order them (maybe he can). Although he is vrey cunning and experianced, he is only a dog. He lacks real long term planning ability, although he can plan a small bit ahead, with sufficent mental agility, he can he bested. Gelert is not fully aware of his abilities and his constant contact with other dogs tends to stop his advancement. For example, he can only use vicissitude to change his shape for things like squeezing through small gaps, slipping out of holds or becoming more menacing ("Umm, Bill did that dog just get bigger and grow more teeth?"). He would not think to grow hands or \subsubsection{Image} Huge, snearing, fanged monster with red eyes and a growl that shakes concrete. Eyes that seem to always be looking for any sign of weakness, fear or change of attention. You can see him measure you up and look for any weakness. He is a chunk of muscle that just drips red, hellish, saliva. He has un unnatural number of sharp teeth and a permenent snarl and on his back is a massive scar from his breathing days. Some nights it gives him some pain and its best not to annoy him on those nights. When playing with Ingrid, Toby and Rene, Gelert can actually get quite dopy. His tounge hangs out and he jumps up and down a lot. At any hint of strangers, he reverts to his former self. \begin{figure} \begin{tabular}{|l|l|l|} \hline Str: 4 & Dex: 3 & Stam: 4 \\ Perc: 3 & Int: 2 & Wits: 3 \\ \hline Willpower: 5 & Blood Pool: 10 & Blood per Turn: 2\\ Attack: bite/6?, claw/5? & Weight:200lb & \\ \hline Alert: 3 & Athl: 2 & Brawl: 3 \\ Dodge: 3 & Smell: 3 & Dogness: 5 \\ \hline Potence: 4 & Celerity: 3 & Fortitude: 5 \\ Auspex: 2 & Obfuscate: 2 & Vissicisitude: 3 (self only) \\ Protean 1 (coz it looks good) & Animalism: (dogs) 4? & \\ \hline \end{tabular} \begin{tabular}{|l||l|l|l|l|l|l|l|l|} \hline Health & ok & ok & -1 & -1 & -2 & -2 & -5 & -5 \\ \hline Health & & & & & & & & \\ \hline \end{tabular} \caption{Stats: Gelert} \end{figure}
